Detailed Description of J/A+AS/147/75 :
ROSAT HRI catalogue of SMC X-ray sources (Sasaki+, 2000)

Note : this is the description file of the original catalog. This HTML page corresponds well to the original description, but some minor changes in the format may have been introduced in the FITS output files in order to allow for arithmetic operations on quantities such as coordinates and times. h:m:s and d:m:s units are normally converted into degrees, and YYYY-MM-DD into julian days.
Similarly, some slight changes may have been introduced in the units; the value given in the HTML files supersedes the value indicated in the ReadMe file for this catalogue.

Description:
The ROSAT HRI SMC source catalogue is based on all 71 pointed
observations of the Small Magellanic Cloud by the ROSAT HRI between
1990 and 1998. The data was selected in a 5°x5° field covering
the SMC. The catalogue which contains 121 X-ray sources, was
cross-correlated with data bases and catalogues like SIMBAD, TYCHO, or
USNO as well as other publications in order to classify the X-ray
sources and find new candidates for various source classes.

Note (1): For sources which are listed in the ROSAT PSPC catalogue (Haberl et al., 2000, Cat. J/A+AS/142/41) PSPC count rates are taken from the catalogue. Otherwise PSPC count rate is the 2{sigma} upper limit from maximum likelihood algorithm ('<' in column l_PCRate). Note (2): PSPC source number from the ROSAT PSPC catalogue (Haberl et al., 2000, Cat. J/A+AS/142/41) Note (3): Candidates from literature are marked with '?' behind the source class. New classifications are put in < >.
